Chinese smartphone maker Xiaomi launched another smartphone in their Redmi series named Redmi 5 and Redmi 5 Plus in China and both the phone will go on sale starting from next week.
The smartphones are a successor to Redmi 4 which was released earlier this year. Both the phones offer newly updated processor, slightly bigger display but smaller battery this time.
Redmi 5 and Redmi 5 Plus – Specifications And Features
Although the battery capacity of Redmi 5 and 5 Plus may be smaller than Redmi 4, both the phones sport a larger screen, improved camera, and hardware as compared to the previous model.
Redmi 5 is sporting a 5.7″ screen with 18:9 aspect ratio and HD+ resolution. Redmi 5 Plus, on the other hand, is sporting a larger 5.99″ Full View display with full HD+ resolution.
Under the hood, the smartphones are powered by an Octa-core Qualcomm® Snapdragon™ processor. The Redmi 5 is powered by a 1.8 GHz Cortex-A53 Snapdragon 450 processor with 2 and 3GB of RAM while the Redmi 5 Plus is powered by a 2.0 GHz Cortex-A53 Snapdragon 625 processor with 3 and 4GB of RAM.
Both the smartphones will run Android Nougat out of the box, with company’s latest version of MIUI on top.
The Redmi 5 and Redmi 5 Plus comes in two storage variant. Redmi 5 comes in 16 and 32GB variant while the Redmi 5 Plus comes in 32 and 64GB variant. Both the phones are expandable up to 128GB via hybrid sim slot.
Both the phone have a same 12MP primary camera with f/2.2 aperture clubbed with dual-tone flash and phase detection autofocus. Up front, there is a 5 MP selfie-shooter. The front camera can shoot videos up to 1080p at 30fps.
It is a dual-SIM smartphone which supports all major 4G LTE bands with 4G VoLTE. It also has Wi-Fi, Bluetooth v4.2, GPS, and OTG. The phone has a micro USB 2.0 port along with a dedicated 3.5mm headphone jack.
The Redmi 5 has 3300 mAh battery while the Redmi 5 Plus has a 4000 mAh battery. Both the phone can easily last for over a day on a single charge.
Variants And Pricing
The 3GB RAM and 32GB of onboard storage variant of Redmi 5 priced at CNY 799 while the 4GB RAM and 64Gb of onboard storage variant of Redmi 5 Plus is priced at CNY 999.
Both the phone will go on sale from next week, starting at CNY 799 (roughly Rs. 7,800) and CNY 999 (roughly Rs. 9,700), respectively.
Both the smartphones will be aiming at the budget level segment and will be competing directly with Nokia 2. Although the initial impression of both the smartphone looks good on paper still we have to see how both smartphones perform against other competing smartphones.
